I've been working on a mod to enable lower-end systems to play FC4, and here it is in all its beta version glory. It may or may not work online / co-op. There are no gameplay changes, but I don't know how Uplay handles multiplayer stuff. If it doesn't work, just swap back to original files and all will be well.

Your results may vary.This version of the mod will only work with FC4 game version 1.5

This mod reduces texture quality on many objects throughout the world. You can see a sample here: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/104123

Please keep in mind that while playing the game the ugliness of the textures will be much less jarring and personally I feel like you get used to them pretty quick.

This mod isn't meant to look pretty, just make the game playable smoothly for those who couldn't do so otherwise.

If you have a lower-end graphics card I'd be happy if you could help me test this. If you have a graphics card that is at, slightly above, or slightly below the minimum requirements - this is for you!

In extremely limited testing using otherwise the same graphical settings, I've achieved these results:

One system went from ~35 to ~55 FPS
One system went from ~25 to ~45
One system went from ~35 to ~45
One system went from ~15 to ~25 (GT540M 1GB)

Highly speculative, but cards such as NVIDIA GT 540 / GTX 450 / GT 640 / GT 740, ATI Radeon HD 5800/5700, Intel HD 4000/4500, and any similarly low-spec mobile versions (460M, 540M, 640M, etc) may run the game at playable FPS with this mod.

Note: You still need a quad core CPU, 4GB RAM, and a 64bit OS. This mod should help with slower quad-cores (slightly) and slower GPU's (more so), but that is all.

I suggest you turn the following features OFF:
AO (Ambient Occlusion)
AA (Anti-Aliasing)
Fur
Trees
Godrays
Motion Blur

Once the mod is running, feel free to turn these features on one-by-one to ensure they work properly. I strongly advise against the NVIDIA Enhanced Fur option (Fur: ON seems to work OK).

I suggest running at LOW graphics preset and then changing Textures to Medium or High. You may need to switch graphics to High then back to Low for this mod to kick in. Turn off motion blur!

I would be very appreciative of any feedback you can give!

Please include your system specs (CPU, RAM, GPU+VRAM) your settings, as well as your before AND after FPS. If there are any textures that look really bad and jarring, I may be able to indiviually fix certain textures without affecting performance markedly.

INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:

You need to extract the .zip file and place the patch.dat and patch.fat files in your farcry4data_win32 folder.

I would suggest making a backup of your original patch.dat/patch.fat files as well as any savegame. You can always re-download the original files, but making a local backup will make it easier/faster to revert to the original state if the mod doesn't work right. Don't be surprised if it crashes, it is the first version after all.

  - Step 2. Click on [Next] to continue the procedure. If the screen resolution is lower than 1024*768,press [Yes] to continue the installation. If the Windows popup 'Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software' message, press 'Install this driver software anyway' to continue the installation.
  - Step 3. Finally, select to restart the system and press [Finish] to complete the installation.

- Step 4. It will install audio driver automatically after computer restarted.

I have a WD Elements 1042 with usb 3.0, Windows 7, Lenovo notebook and My Computer can't see it. Anyway, it's visible in Hardware and Sound -> Devices and Printers -> Elements 1042 Properties -> WD Elements 1042 USB Device Properties: Driver Provider: Microsoft / Driver Date 6/21/2006 / Driver Version: 6.1.7600.16385 / Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows. The Update Driver button is off. When I go to the Device Manager -> Disk Drives -> WD Elements 1042 USB Device and I try to update the driver, they tell me 'Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date.' Even so, the hdd is not recognized as an external drive by Windows and not appearing in My Computer. Can please anybody tell me why is that? Thanks!!

Most likely it simply not assigned any Drive Letter.

Go under 'Storage' - Disk Management

Most likely you will see your WD Elements drive shown there, just without any drive letter. Right Click on the Partition (right hand side of the Diskx - Which could be disk1, or disk2, etc) and choose 'Change Drive Letter and Paths' and add a new drive letter.

Still nothing on the trouble shooter, i tried in My computer manage folder but nothing seems to work in there. Just cant seem to find or open any files from it and its not showing up on my computer. https://matrixrenew.amebaownd.com/posts/19034872. Check what is the status of the external drive in disk management. Refer the following steps to access disk management.

a)Open Computer Management by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Computer Management.‌ If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

b)In the left pane, under Storage, click Disk Management and check the status of the flash drive.

I have the exact same problem as Wayne.

My external hard drive does get detected when i connect it to my computer but does not turn up on the devices in the Computer menu with all the other external inputs.

Ive checked the status, it says the device is currently working properly and i yet still am not able to access it in any way.

Is there any way to regain access or reformat the device through a program of some sort?

To install the library, issue the following commands

Attach the RRB3 to your Raspberry Pi. You do not need to attach batteries, motors or anything else to the RRB3 just yet. For now you can just power it through the Pi's normal USB power connector.

Lets run some tests from the Python Console now that everything is installed. We can experiment with the RRB3, even without any motors

The quickest way to use the RRB3 as a roving robot is to buy a robot chassis such as the Magician Chassis (available from many sources) or similar low-cost robot chassis kits from eBay. These kits come as a laser cut body, a pair of gearmotors, often a battery box and nuts and bolts to fix it all together.

Here is one such chassis. The first step is to bolt this all together. Note that these are usually supplied with a 4 x AA battery box. You will need to swap this for a similar 6 x AA battery box or a 7.2V LiPo battery pack. Rechargeable batteries are a good idea when driving motors.

Once the chassis is built, use some of the bolts suppled to fix the Raspberry Pi on the chassis and then attach the RRB3 onto the GPIO connector. Make sure its the right way arround, and that all the pins meet up with the socket.

The leads from the motors will thread up through the chassis and each pair of leads should go to one of the two screw terminals labelled L and R for (left and right). If you put the leads in the wrong way around, the direction of the motor will be opposite to that expected, so just swap them over if this happens.

Next, make sure that your Raspberry Pi's USB power lead is unplugged. From now on we are going to power it from batteries.

If the RRB3 is powered only from your Raspberry Pi, then the motor and OC outputs will not work, but the rangefinder, LEDs and I2C interface will work. To use the Motors and OC outputs, you must connect an external power source to the RRB3.

It is a good idea to leave the wheels off the robot chassis for now so that it does not unexpectedly drive itself off your table. One or both of the motors may spin as the Raspberry Pi starts up.

Wire the battery pack into the third pair of screw terminals. +V towards the outside of the board. The Raspberry Pi's power light should light up and it will start to boot.

Having your Pi set up for WiFi will allow you to connect to it wirelessly over SSH. So, you may want to plug in a USB WiFi dongle.

The first parameter '9' is ther battery voltage (6 x 1.5V AA batteries). The second parameter ('6') is the motor voltage (6V for most low cost robot chassis motors). It is important to set these values correctly, as the library will manage the voltage supplied to the motors, to prevent them burning out or running too fast.

LEDs

There are two LEDs built-in to the RaspiRobotBoard, called LED1 and LED2. Both of these can be turned on and off using the following methods:

To turn LED1 on just do:

rr.set_led1(1)

To turn it off again do:

rr.set_led1(0)

To control LED2 just do the same thing but using set_led2.

Switch Inputs

The sw1_closed() and sw2_closed() functions return true if the contacts for that switch are closed. By default, the switches are open. You can test out closing the switch by shorting the two contacts with a screwdriver.

The following test program will show you the state of each of the switch contacts.

Open Collector Outputs

The RRB3 has two high-power open collector outputs. These can each source up to 2A and so are suitable for driving loads at the battery voltage, such as high power LEDS, IR senders, alarm bells, relays etc.

To turn the Open Collector OC1 output on just do:

rr.set_oc1(1)

To turn it off again do:

rr.set_oc1(0)

To control OC2, substitute set_oc2 in place of set_oc1 in the examples above

Motor (High Level Interface)

There are two levels of command for controlling the motors. There is a high level interface that assumes that the motors are connected to wheels on a rover. These commands are forward, reverse, left, right and stop.

rr.forward()

.. will start both motors running in the same direction to move the robot rover forwards. They will continue in this direction until another command is issued.

If you want to move forward for a certain amount of time, you can specify a number of seconds as an optional first argument. If you supply a second parameter between 0 and 1 this will control the speed of the motor. This is set to 0.5 as a defaut. If you want the motors to run indefinately, but also want to control the speed, then use 0 as the first patrameter.

First Age[edit]

Battle of the Powers[edit]

The Battle of the Powers, also called the War of the Powers, occurred between the god-like Valar and their former member Melkor in primeval Middle-earth. After a long titanic conflict the Valar finally defeated Melkor, who was then confined in a massive chain for three ages. The battle caused massive changes to Middle-earth's original geography.This affected fanghorn for years to come.

The Kinslayings[edit]

The Kinslayings are the collective term for the three battles fought among the Eldar. (The civil war in Gondor in the Third Age called the Kin-strife is also sometimes called a Kinslaying.)

First kinslaying[edit]

The first battle, the Kinslaying at Alqualondë (Swanhaven), appears in print in The Silmarillion. It involves the NoldorinElves under their king, Fëanor, against their fellow Elves, the Teleri whose Lord was Olwë, who did not take part in the battle.

Against the will of the godlike Valar, Fëanor had induced the Noldor to leave Valinor to make war upon the Dark Lord Morgoth in revenge for the murder of his father Finwë and the theft of his Silmarilli jewels. As the easiest route to Middle-earth was by sea, Fëanor and his sons led one host of the Noldor to the city of Alqualondë and asked the seafaring Teleri of Alqualondë for their vessels. The Teleri refused to help them defy the Valar. Bitter fighting broke out (although it is not clear who began the fighting, the Silmarillion states that fighting began when the Noldor attempted to take control of the Teleri's ships) and eventually many (perhaps hundreds) of Elves on both sides were slain. Though the Teleri were lightly armed, they were able to defend themselves to some degree until a second host of the Noldor, led by Fëanor's half-nephew Fingon, arrived together with some of his father Fingolfin's people. Fingon's people assumed erroneously that the Teleri had attacked the Noldor under orders of the Valar. In the end, many of the Teleri were slain and the ships taken. Afterward, the sea rose and destroyed many of the boats to punish the Noldor for this cruel act. Though the Teleri forgave the Noldor by the end of the First Age of Middle-earth, they still refused to fight in the War of Wrath. All Elves that followed Fëanor and continued towards Middle-earth fell under the Doom of Mandos.

This episode appears in Tolkien's earliest Middle-earth-related writings, published in The Book of Lost Tales. In the earliest surviving version, the 'Noldoli' steal the ships of the 'Solosimpi' without any fighting. When a concept of a battle was developed, the location was first called 'Kopas Alqalunten'.^[1] In a late version of the legendarium, Galadriel fought on the side of the Teleri, her mother Eärwen's people, against the Fëanorians.

Second kinslaying[edit]

The second battle is the Sack of Doriath made by the Sons of Fëanor. Caranthir and Curufin died there, Celegorm dies killing Dior, the son of Beren and Lúthien. Although the Fëanorians won the battle, they did not manage to obtain the Silmaril.

Third kinslaying[edit]

The third battle in the Kinslaying is the attack by the Sons of Fëanor on the Mouths of Sirion where Elwing was attacked. The last Kinslaying is considered the cruellest of them all because many women and children were also murdered by the Fëanorians. And still the Silmaril is not taken back.

It was stated by Eönwë herald of Manwë that because of these evil deeds the remaining Sons of Fëanor had lost all right to the Silmarils, and when Maedhros and Maglor finally retrieved them, the Silmarils burned their hands, driving Maedhros to suicide and Maglor to wander the Earth forever.

Battles of Beleriand[edit]

The battles between the Elves of Beleriand and the forces of Morgoth are often referred to as the Battles of Beleriand, but also as the War of the Jewels as the Silmarilli were behind them all. The battles spanned the last several centuries of the First Age.

In J. R. R. Tolkien's fictional Middle-earth, the First Battle of Beleriand^[2] was, as the name suggests, the first battle of the Wars of Beleriand, fought by the SindarinElves, led by Elu Thingol, King of Doriath and Lord of Beleriand, against the armies of Morgoth, the Great Enemy and original Dark Lord.

The First Battle of Beleriand was fought before the Noldor arrived, and was fought by the Sindar and Laiquendi Elves.

The Second Battle was Dagor-nuin-Giliath ('Battle-under-Stars'), fought by the Noldor following Fëanor and his Seven Sons, in which the Noldor were victorious but Fëanor was slain by Balrogs. During this battle the Battle of Lhammoth was fought by the host of Fingolfin.

The Third Battle was Dagor Aglareb ('Glorious Battle'), which led to the Siege of Angband. Various minor battles were fought during the Siege which are not counted.

The Fourth Battle was the Dagor Bragollach ('Battle of Sudden Flame'), in which the Siege was broken and Fingolfin was slain by Morgoth.

The Fifth Battle was the Nírnaeth Arnoediad ('Unnumbered Tears'), in which the Noldor were utterly defeated and Fingon, Azaghâl and Huor are killed and Húrin captured.

Years later, the Battle of Tumhalad, in which the elven forces under Orodreth and Túrin were defeated by Angband forces under Glaurung, led to the sack of Nargothrond. It was the last battle of the Elves of the kingdom of Nargothrond. It was fought on the plain of Tumhalad between the river Narog and its tributary, the river Ginglith.^[3]

In year 510 FA the Fall of Gondolin takes place, it was fought between the Elves of Gondolin led by Turgon their king and the city's houses leaders and the hosts of Morgoth swarmed from Angband led by Gothmog (who dies in the assault). At the end the elves are defeated, the city is lost, sacked and destroyed, the king, most of the houses' leaders, warriors and inhabitants perish. A slim host of Gondolindrim manages to escape through the mountains, and later will establish in the Mouths of Sirion.
